☺Santiago, 14 de septiembre de 2009. Misteriosa y sorpresivamente, hoy martes, la presidenta Michelle Bachelet se decidió por la norma japonesa para televisión digital en nuestro país, tras la firma del correspondiente decreto supremo, que será ley dentro de 30 días, después de 2 largos años de incertidumbre para usuarios y fabricantes. El gobierno aduce que se tomó esta decisión debido a un eventual menor costo a corto plazo, en relación a la norma europea y norteamericana. Según las propias palabras del ministro de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones, René Cortázar: "si tenemos mejores atributos técnicos, e igual valor, elegimos la norma japonesa".
Factores que se tomaron en consideración para adoptar la norma nipona en Chile:
- El valor de los decodificadores ha bajado a más de la mitad el último tiempo, y la baja continúa, al igual que el de los televisores.
- Garantizar por parte del gobierno el menor costo posible para los usuarios.
- En Japón se produce el cincuenta por ciento de los televisores plasma y LCD que se consumen en el mundo.
- Brasil, Argentina y Perú también adoptaron la norma japonesa.

Mysteries and surprises, the President Michelle Bachelet decided for the Japanese standard for digital television in our country, following the signing of the relevant Presidential Decree, which will become law within 30 days, after 2 long years of uncertainty for users and manufacturers. The government argues that this decision was made due to a possible short-term lower cost, relative to European and American standard. In the words of the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, René Cortázar: "if we have better technical attributes, and equal value, we chose the Japanese norm".
Factors taken into account in reaching Japan's rule in Chile:
- The value of the decoders has dropped more than half the last time, and continues downward, like the televisions.
- Guarantee by the government the lowest possible cost to users.
- In Japan there is fifty per cent of plasma and LCD televisions that are consumed in the world.
- Brazil, Argentina and Peru also adopted the Japanese norm.
